Dear friend

Dear friend is a participatory installation that explores communication, reciprocity, public vs. private, and the construction of narratives.

Each envelope contains a letter written by me. Each letter offers the reader a different perspective of my life and thoughts as well as an invitation to respond. They are dispersed in a variety of ways - left individually in public places for people to discover, displayed as gallery installations, and everything in between. People may receive an original letter that has not been reproduced in any way, a photocopied one, or a letter generated by computer code that I wrote. These different forms change the dynamics of the interaction. In some cases, people are provided with the materials to respond on the spot. Some return replies to me personally, while others replace my letter with their own, creating a constantly changing installation.
